About Brisbane Canine Coaching

Founded and led by Josh Edwards — Owner & Head Trainer

Welcome to Brisbane Canine Coaching. My name is Josh Edwards, and I specialise in dog training, behaviour assessment, and developing strong, functional relationships between dogs and their handlers. My goal is to help dogs and their owners achieve clarity, balance, and long-term success through practical, personalised training that works in the real world—not just in controlled environments.

My approach is built on problem-solving, structure, and relationship building, shaped by years of working in high-pressure operational settings. I’ve worked closely with Australian police forces including the Australian Federal Police, Victoria Police, and Queensland Police Service, as well as international agencies in the Middle East. During this time, I’ve trained and assessed dogs for demanding roles such as counter-terrorism, general duties policing, detection work, and search-and-rescue operations now active across Australia.

At the core of Brisbane Canine Coaching is a clear philosophy: training should be fair, honest, and tailored to the individual dog and handler. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all methods or quick fixes. Dogs learn best when expectations are clear, communication is consistent, and training is built on a balance of motivation, structure, and accountability. My focus is always on helping dogs feel confident and purposeful, while ensuring owners understand why their dog behaves the way it does and how to guide them effectively.

That experience has given me a deep understanding of canine behaviour, learning, drive, and stress—especially when the stakes are high. Just as importantly, it’s taught me how to work with people. I place a strong emphasis on education and empowerment, coaching owners and handlers in a way that builds confidence, clarity, and responsibility. My aim is not to create dependency on a trainer, but to equip people with the skills and understanding to succeed long after our sessions are over.

I work with pet dog owners, organisations, and working dog handlers to solve real problems. This includes addressing behavioural issues such as dog aggression, improving obedience and engagement, and preparing dogs for specialised working roles. Every dog, household, and working environment is different, and I take the time to assess the full picture before developing a training plan that is practical, ethical, and sustainable.

At Brisbane Canine Coaching, you’ll work directly with me. I value honesty, transparency, and trust in every client relationship. I will always give clear advice, set realistic expectations, and prioritise the long-term wellbeing of both dog and handler. My aim is to help you unlock your dog’s potential and build a strong, reliable partnership—one grounded in trust, clarity, and purpose, and capable of standing up to everyday life.
